Thankful
Today was our first holiday on the boat. In the past we've either been at our land-based home in Maine or at my folks. We had to settle on a turkey breast rather than the whole bird as that's all that would fit in the stove. Still the meal was as good as any we've had on land - turkey and stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce, steamed broccoli, noodle kugel, gravy, of course, and pecan pie. Add a nice bottle of wine and a meal at a 4 star restaurant couldn't beat it.
It was a low key day, warm but overcast. We watched the Macy's parade, took the dogs for a walk, and did nothing in particular. It's quiet and beautiful here on Bald Head Island.
Still sometimes it's hard to be thankful. We've had a few hard weeks. My brother's wife is better but still fragile. My father just entered hospice and I wonder if I will see him again. My mother struggles with losing her mate of over 60 years while also struggling with care-taking.
But I am thankful. Thankful for a father who has loved and cherished me. Thankful for a mother who is loving and an example of strength and devotion. Thankful Chris is there for my brother and their two children. And immensely thankful for my husband, my two four-legged "kids", and that I am able to live this unusual and rewarding life.
As for Dyna and Dylan, they're thankful their dad gave them some turkey.
Happy Thanksgiving!

We are envious of your Thanksgiving on your boat. We did have family around, which as you say, is a real blessing. Marin had a warm blanket in front of the pellet stove and Grandchildren to spoil him.In that spirit, Elaine and I hope you continue to have a blessed and bountiful life filled with your families and all that love and hold dear.
Happy Thanksgiving,Fair winds & Smooth sailing,
Elaine & Lawrence S/V Elle & I
Glad to hear the "four" of you had a great Thanksgiving on the boat. Sorry to hear about your family situations. Our prayers are with you. We spent the day on the boat with a little exploring on Half Note in the afternoon. The kids and us. We wouldn't have it any other way.
Hey Dylan, if you stare just a little harder at that dinner plate it will levitate and move towards your mouth. Just stare a little harder!
After the parade, did the kids watch the dog show on TV? I always wonder whether those dog-show dogs ever get to romp on a beach.
Karen, that's quite something that your folks have been together over 60 years. Definitely something to be thankful for.
Looks like a pretty good thanksgiving meal for being on a boat. I'm sure somebody is developing a new turkey with a cube-shaped body that will fit into your boat's oven.
Thanks for all the comments - we surely hope everyone had a happy and healthy Thanksgiving too.
Yes, we watched the dog show. Dylan actually watches TV on things like that. He likes seeing the dogs on the screen - it's quite funny to watch.
Safe travels to everyone!
Turkey breast instead of turkey !!
It is amazing the completely unique experiencies we have on the boat.
Our first holiday aboard was Thanksgiving in St Augustine, and we had the same turkey related concerns. Our solution ? We went shopping with a tape measure to find the turkey that would fit in the oven. We got the same looks that we get when standing in line with a bunch of cars at an outside ATM
